14 Cornhill is situated fronting onto the Royal Exchange and Bank of England and this Grade II listed building once served as a former bank headquarters. The decision was taken to renovate the existing building with some modern structural and architectural metal work to a very high standard. We were asked to detail the feature 1st floor mezzanine with corresponding staircase to ground floor and the atrium balustrade.
The mezzanine floor provided some interesting challenges. It was made up of many different elements such as a structural steel carcass, solid tension bars for rigidity, glazed flooring & a structural glass balustrade within a fabricated track. One unique element to this mezzanine was that it was also mounted from the underside of the stair above.
