The Scalpel is one of London’s most iconic skyscrapers. Our scope of works consisted of balustrades and wall rails for 2 separate, 40 storey concrete stairs. With access to a variety of design software programmes we were able to import an existing concrete stair model with cast-in halfen channels. Then by using Advance Steel we modelled the core balustrade directly over to ensure complete accuracy when interacting with the concrete stair. This neutralised any on site issues during installation.
The balustrade consisted of stainless-steel tube handrails mounted on mild steel infill panels. Each mild steel panel were flat bar ends with elliptical holes for plug welding round bar infill rails. This ensured a high-quality finish, without visible welds. Profiled & machined boss’s were then sandwiched between the panels to pick up the handrail.
